Incredible whale encounter in Ilulissat, Greenland

During our summer Photography Tours in Greenland you will have a chance to encounter these magnificent animals. The Disko Bay area is a remarkable place in the summer months. Many species of whales migrate to the cooler waters of the Disko bay area. In the months of July and August the chances of seeing these big marine mammals swimming around are very high.

It is an exceptional experience to be drifting in a boat in front of the glacier, waiting for chunks of ice to fall. When it happens, as you can see on the video, you will be fascinated by the deafening crash of the ice breaking off, followed by the huge splash when the ice hits the water.

The thin legs and long necks of gerenuks (Litocranius walleri) make them one of the most easily recognised of Africa’s antelopes. Their mating rituals is fascinating and complex. Females will raise their nose and pull their ears while males bend their necks sideways and show their horns before marking the female on the thigh.
